Raleigh’s wealth of outdoor green spaces, cultural institutions, and vibrant arts and food scene makes every day an adventure.

Welcome to Raleigh

Historic, collegiate, and lively

North Carolina’s state capital is known for its remarkable mature oak trees, friendly neighbors, and esteemed education. Named after English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh, who led a venture inland after landing on Roanoke Island in 1587, Raleigh is imbued with history, and the city draws diverse crowds from young academics to empty nesters craving the sun. Raleigh’s wealth of outdoor green spaces, cultural institutions, and vibrant arts and food scene makes every day an adventure. Detached single-family dwellings are popular for families, and there are a number of swanky condominiums, townhomes, and mid-rise apartments near the city’s center.

What to Love

  • Collegiate atmosphere
  • Foodie-friendly
  • History all around
  • Active community

People & Lifestyle
This community is brimming with bright scholars and established professionals. Because of Raleigh’s surplus of higher education, many students flock to the city. Alongside nearby Durham and Chapel Hill, Raleigh’s large number of research institutions have earned these three towns the nickname “Research Triangle.” Raleigh boasts a multitude of quiet study spots, beautiful parks, and urban amenities, and everyone here feels like a neighbor.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Good food is plentiful here in Raleigh, whether you’re craving some Carolina barbecue or an upscale dinner for two. At Angus Barn Steakhouse, enjoy elegantly-plated Southern cooking in the sophisticated dining room of an authentic barn. Inside the Dodd-Hinsdale House, experience luxury dining firsthand at Second Empire. This renovated historic home, which dates back to 1879, operates a restaurant in their opulent dining rooms and a tavern in their exposed brick cellar for a more casual experience.

Midtown offers an incredible variety of eateries, particularly in North Hills, such as French cuisine at Coquette, fusion joints like the Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar, and Vivace’s upscale Italian menu. Cantina 18 in Cameron Village serves up Southwestern favorites and handcrafted cocktails in an industrial setting. Tin Roof Teas offers over 250 high-quality teas as well as a selection of fine chocolates. This teahouse also hosts monthly classes to promote learning about tea making and foster a community of tea lovers.
For a night out, enjoy live music and a great selection of beers on tap at the Pour House or dance the night away during a concert at Red Hat Amphitheater.

Things to Do

Due to Raleigh’s buzzing college scene and local diversity, there is always something exciting happening around the block. Raleigh hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year. The Raleigh Arts Festival, GalaxyCon Raleigh, Packapalooza, Summer Daze Music Festival, and the Hopscotch Music Festival are just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps one of Raleigh’s most surprising events is BugFest, where over 30,000 visitors gather in Downtown Raleigh to interact with entomologists to learn about (and eat!) insects.

Get outdoors and explore Raleigh’s stunning scenery with a walk along the Neuse River Trail or camp under the oak shade at William B. Umstead State Park

Raleigh’s affluent midtown North Hills features a premier shopping destination, a movie theater, and a bowling alley. The Midtown Farmers’ Market takes place here every Saturday, and Wednesdays at Midtown Park are dedicated to wellness with an evening fitness program.

In addition to Raleigh’s five prestigious collegiate institutions, the city is home to a number of renowned public and private schools for young learners. Here are a few of Raleigh’s outstanding lower education facilities:

  • Needham B. Broughton High School, 9-12
  • Thales Academy, PK-12
